What are your thoughts about 'Community Public Access Defiubrillation'?

These schemes are to place AED's in communities which are rural and where the Ambulance Service find it extremely difficult to respond in the allocated time.

These schemes are there to not only aide the community but also aide any Community First Responder Schemes and Community First Responders.

I think in todays world they are more than welcome by people and needed in populated areas.

I believe it’s the only way to go, but I think the public needs to be educated, not necessarily on its use, but as to the benefits and somehow remove the stigma as to these being a dangerous item.
As most doctors’ surgeries have AEDS, why can’t we encourage the placement these units on the outer wall of the surgery enabling 24hr access - Most people know where their GP surgeries reside.

here's an interesting point.....AED's are placed all over the place but how come PTS cars / ambulances dont seem to have them ???

The main reason as to why the Patient Transport Services (Ambulances & Cars) do not have AEDs' is basically down to the financial restrains with in the Ambulance Services.

Imagine the financial out lay for the purchasing of the AEDs', training and annual recertification.

the biggest problem in the past with PTS was that they were 'untracked' and that not only did comms not know exactly where they were they didn't know their loading status

the data solutions such as PDA terrafix some services are using 'solve' that ... and it's in no way cooincidental that the vehicles with the PDAs also have larger first aid kits and space for a portable O2 and AED ...

AED training in itself is not all that costly , if you are doing an annual CPR update it;s a couple of hours abinitio and a few minutes in subsequent requals until they revise the resus guidelines and reprogramme the machines

costs can be a factor depending on whether you go 'fisher price' or 'professional' first responder AEDs - but as many CFRs and the majority if not all PAD schemes have 'fisher price' machines ...

that said the retail prices of the 'fisher price' machines still approach 1000gbp per unit - not sure what the trade price for 100 + units is though , and pads remain relatively expensive although generic pads are available for some machines ( the FR2 and other philips agilent machines using that connector and lifepaks using the LP500 pattern connector)
